Mass Customized Learning Packages

“There just isn’t anything out there that fits my needs to train the kind of woodworkers I need.” This statement has been the driving force behind the innovative team that has been working for the past year on designing, engineering and testing learning packages that the instructor or student customizes to their own situation. It’s all digital until it comes to the finished product, which is one-of-a-kind, exactly as you ordered it, and delivered to your mailbox in a matter of days. It’s extremely affordable because there is no waste. It’s highly effective because it is specific to the manufacturing situation and woodwork products built by the person ordering the learning materials. That’s what it will do on day one, when introduced to the world, right here in the Woodwork Career Learning Center pages. It’s probably just a matter of time and the input of additional volunteers on the team building this before it’s 100% digital, all the way to the iPad or other digital delivery system for learning materials, workbooks, assessments and reference materials.

So you know what to expect, here’s how it works. You’ll come to this website, which is the only portal for the WCA Mass Customized Learning Packages. Then you click here to move into the WCA BrightDoc area and create a login and password. There you will see four major elements or collections of learning materials from which you will build your own learning package. Those elements include

  1. WCA’s Woodwork Manufacturing Skill Standards--Measurable standards for 12 tool groups, covering over 50 tools and machines and their operations. When the Skills Standards project is completed, it will include more than 100 machines and tools as well as the woodworker's relationship to them through skill standards, evaluation and a recognition or credit process.
  2. Training materials matched to the Woodwork Manufacturing Skill Standards. These include the best new work coming out of American and Canadian curriculum developers and publishers. These are specific chapters or modules that cover just the tools, machines, operations and skills needed.
  3. Assessments and e-learning modules built to make sure the training materials in your customized package are getting through to the learner as intended and desired.
  4. PowerPoint and presentation materials built to cover and deliver the training materials in an exciting, visual, memorable way.

The mathematical combinations of the different ways you can customize your materials are as unique as you. That’s more than one in a million. It’s an original—for your training purposes. Here’s the fun part. You get to custom design the covers that go on your packages. It can have your name, your company name, and many other design features that say exactly what’s inside. Suppose your package ends up being 300 pages? The ordering program prompts you create two, easy-to-handle package and to name the series you just created, such as Volume 1 and Volume 2.
